Think 'Meet the Fockers' which portrays an American version of Baby Signing when Robert De Niro's character Jack had taught his grandson "Little Jack" sign language.

So what exactly is it. Baby Signing or Baby Sign Language as it is also known is a collection of easy to remember, simple gestures that hearing babies can use to communicate with you long before they have the words to speak in sentences. You see until babies start to speak, their only effective way of expressing themselves is through pointing, crying and screaming. This is very frustrating for both you and your baby as you both want to communicate and be understood.

Try not talking for a day or expressing yourself to those around you and you'll understand why babies cry! Babies experience the frustration of not being able to communicate clearly every day until they can talk properly at about 2½ years old.

Even though babies lack the skills to talk, once they are around six months old, they have the ability to communicate using signs. Through baby signing, babies can express themselves, such as being hungry or thirsty, tired or sick, or wanting to read a book or play with a toy.

Baby signing is beneficial for hearing babies & toddlers up to 30 months and allows babies to express their wants, needs and thoughts by using their hands to temporarily bridge the communication gap until they can talk in sentences at about 2½ years old.

After two decades of research by child development experts, they found that baby signing can:
• Help babies to talk sooner.
• Improve intellectual development.
• Help babies develop larger vocabularies & understand more words.
• Reduce tantrums, tears and frustration.
• Enrich the bond with parents, siblings and carers.
• Reveal how smart babies really are and give you a window into their mind.

There are so many benefits to use baby signing and introducing it is pretty easy once you have the right steps to follow and the right signs to start with. Just think how easy life will be if you and your baby can understand each other!
